New laws this week are affecting Hoosiers of all kinds. A boost in the gas tax means everyday drivers will pay more for everything from a run to the store to a trip for fun, while a change in commercial licensing laws will affect some big rig operators.

Meanwhile, a plan to send up to 25 million gallons of water daily from Eagle Creek Park to a proposed LEAP facility in Boone County faces additional challenges, as state and local lawmakers are sounding an alarm about the idea.

And finally, thousands of visitors will flood Indianapolis this weekend for the NCAA Final Four and other championship games. It's beyond storybook perfect that the kid who made THE SHOT during Elite Eight play hails from Indiana. See the basket, and the UConn fan reaction, below. Even without a ticket to a single game, there's much to see and do in the city this weekend.

Let us know about interesting things that are happening in your part of the state. As always, thanks for reading.

Gas tax adding pressure at the pump

Hoosiers already feeling the pain of increased prices for fuel got another pinch in their wallet with this week's rise in the gas tax.

Hoosier Ag Today reports Indiana drivers will pay an estimated 71 to 72 cents per gallon in total taxes each time they visit the pump. That's one of the highest gas taxes in the country.

The increase poses yet another challenge for farmers as they head into planting season already facing other difficulties to their businesses, including low commodity prices.
